Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan or otherwise known as Yin Yang Boxing or Grand Ultimate Fist

Tai Chi Chuan has a history of hundreds of years having been developed in Chen Village (Chenjiagou), Henan Provence, China. Tai Chi Chuan is a internal martial art with the primary focus on training in a very relaxed, coordinated way. All movement is led by the mind, which is kept very calm and clear allowing our breath, blood and internal energy (Chi) to move unhindered through a relaxed body. If we adhere to the traditional teachings (Principles) we have the opportunity to not only develop Chi to enable a high level of martial skill but also lead Chi to enable a much healthier, pliable body with all organs and bodily systems working as they were intended. The first stage of this development is to connect the mind with the breath and body, enabling the body to function efficiently on all levels. The second stage could be described as connecting the Body (mind, breath & body) with Heaven & Earth, this really relates to the connection of our bodily Chi with the Chi of all nature and could also be described as becoming one with nature and being able to exchange our Chi with that of the natural world. Our desire both on a personal and teaching level is to progress as far as possible, given the demands of our daily lives, towards reaching Heaven, Earth & Body combined.
Shotokan karate-do had its origins on the Island of Okinawa (Japan) whose inhabitants learnt a form of Chinese boxing from the traders travelling across waters from China. This developed over time, and was first shown to mainland Japan and to the west by its founder Gichin Funakoshi. Shotokan was just one of three styles originating from Okinawa and is now popular worldwide. Our philosophy is to adhere to the traditional training methods and the pure martial applications of the techniques which are very efficient for the purpose of self defence.
