Teaching system/philosophy: Karate-Do (Empty Hand Way)
Our philosophy is to adhere to the traditional training methods and the pure martial applications of the techniques which are very efficient for the purpose of self defence
The basic training method and steps to improvement as a Karate-Ka (Empty Hand Student) are outlined below:
•Repetition and practice of basic technique
•Understanding the importance of correct body alignment within each technique
•Strengthening of the body, with emphasis on core strength
•Gradual increase of complexity of techniques
•Emphasis is on Kata (form) training as all necessary technique for practical self defence can be found within the performance of Kata
•Focus on the relaxation and tension throughout the body while performing Karate technique
•Focus on the importance of stance and the source of power within the posture for effectively performing Karate technique
•Progression through the grading system when student can demonstrate sufficient knowledge, this commences as a white belt through to, yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Brown, Black and then Dan gradings. It is often said that the most difficult grading to obtain are that of Yellow and Black belts. To obtain a Black belt grading can take between 5 to 10 years. Students must have discipline and ability to persevere and there is a strong emphasis on Dojo (training place) etiquette (How we behave while training especially with regard to respect for ourselves and others)
